The tough-as-nails star, famous for his "No Gimmicks Needed" grit, died following complications after snapping his leg in a horror accident during a TNA wrestling match in 2005.
He appeared on TV just hours before his death at the age of 33, while managing the tag team known as The Naturals in a wheelchair at ringside. But hours later he was found dead from a blood clot, believed to have formed in his busted leg after the op, which travelled to his lungs, causing a massive pulmonary embolism. Medics battled to save him, but it was too late.
Before his injury, he was known as one of wrestling's most gifted technical wrestlers, appearing regularly for the WWE, ECW and WCW – picking up championships in all three promotions, including the WCW World Cruiserweight Championships. Another on our list of beloved-legends is Umaga, who died aged 36 in 2009. Real name Eddie Fatu, the Samoan Bulldozer was found dead at home in Houston Texas with blood pouring from his nose – he was rushed to hospital and placed on life support, but suffered a heart attack and died.
A probe later revealed the powerhouse performer died from a lethal cocktail of drugs. Reports confirmed a deadly mix of hydrocodone (a strong painkiller), carisoprodol (a muscle relaxant), and diazepam (Valium) caused 'acute toxicity' leading to the fatal heart failure. Umaga had been released by WWE just six months prior, despite being popular with the fans due to huge feuds with the likes of John Cena and Jeff Hardy.
Part of the same Anoai'i family as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, he held the WWE Intercontinental Championship on two occasions, and his last WWE match was a losing effort against CM Punk at the 2009 Extreme Rules PPV..
