Wisconsin-Superior softball finally suffered its first loss in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play but still holds the league lead after splitting a doubleheader at Northwestern on Saturday, April 26 in St. Paul. The UWS offense was held to RBI singles from Baylee O’Donnell and Carly Stuckmayer, which wasn’t enough to get them out of a hole that was 3-0 at the time and was rebuilt to 4-2 in the next half-inning.

Abby Mitchell (Carlton/Wrenshall) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings for the win. On Friday, April 25, UWS claimed a 9-7 win in the first game of the series, with an RBI double from Bella Garley and a two-run single by Hanson in the fifth inning finally giving the Yellowjackets the lead for good. Both teams had 13 hits, with Stuckmayer contributing three, and Bennett, Hanson and Macal all recording two.

Garley relieved Mitchell in the fourth inning and settled the game down for a 12th win on the season. UWS was ranked sixth in Region IX in the regional rankings released last week. ADVERTISEMENT After a nonconference home doubleheader against St.

BASEBALL UWS bounces back from losing streak After a 16-15 slugfest went against Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday, April 23 at St. Scholastica, and a 4-3 10-inning game against Northwestern at home on Friday the Yellowjackets bounced back with three straight wins at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

UWS swept a UMAC home doubleheader against Northwestern 11-6 and 3-2 on Saturday before an 8-6 nonconference victory at Saint Mary’s on Sunday. On Sunday, a pinch-hit two-run double in the top of the ninth from Tanner Voight broke a 6-all tie. Wylee Arro was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

UWS found itself down 4-0 early in the doubleheader opener on Saturday but scored five times in the third inning and three in the fifth to take control. All nine positions in the UWS lineup generated at least one hit and five had two. In the eighth inning, Voight had another big hit, this time a double down the left-field line that broke a 2-2 tie.

Jonny Rhodes and Payton Steiner had two-hit games, while pitcher Josh Pritchard scattered two runs and nine hits over eight solid innings.
