Summer fun began with a healthy twist Saturday, April 26, as the Summerville Family YMCA hosted its annual Healthy Kids Day at the Oakbrook Family Center. The free event, which took place from 9 a.m.
-noon, is part of a national YMCA initiative aimed at promoting the health and well-being of children and families. For more than a decade, Healthy Kids Day has been a cornerstone of the Y’s efforts to inspire active play, teach healthy habits and foster a lifelong love of physical activity. “This is a fun, energizing way to start the summer while encouraging healthy lifestyles,” organizers said.
“Healthy Kids Day celebrates kids’ health and continues to teach healthy habits for kids and families, encourage active play and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity.” Open to the public, the event featured a range of activities designed for children and families to enjoy together, including youth sports, STEM demonstrations, face painting and fitness sessions. A special “Camp Corner” provided a sneak peek into YMCA summer camp offerings, and giveaways took place throughout the day.
