A man who has “used violence in every intimate relationship” was arrested after attacking his partner in a car, a court heard. Nathan Bevan, 30, assaulted the woman first on November 12 last year at what was then their shared home and then again just weeks later on December 6. Bolton Crown Court heard how Bevan had lashed out while his partner was driving him to the gym and as they stopped at some traffic lights in Widnes.

Prosecutor James Preece said: “As she turned to look at him she saw him punch her to the side of the head.” Mr Preece told the court how the woman lost consciousness and when she eventually came to, Bevan told her to “please just drive.” The case was heard at Bolton Crown Court (Image: Anthony Moss) But passers-by came to see what had happened when the car did not move on and Bevan was arrested after the police were called.

Mr Preece told the court that Bevan, who has previous convictions for affray and battery, had previously been remanded in prison accused of assaulting the same woman earlier. But in that case the charges had been dropped. For these two assaults Bevan, of Northfield Street, Deane, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Kevin Liston, defending, said Bevan, who appeared before the court via video link from prison, had already served four-and-a-half months jail time while on remand. He said that he had earned credit for his guilty plea and that he did not stand by comments made in his pre-sentence report that did not appear to take responsibility for his actions. Mr Liston said that Bevan had also been badly affected by his use of anabolic steroids.

But Recorder Jeremy Lasker reminded the defendant of his assault on his most recent partner and his troubling history of similar crimes . ” Recorder Lasker said the 30-year-old’s crimes had been exacerbated by the use of anabolic steroids. He jailed Bevan for two-and-a-half years and gave him a restraining order against his victim for five years..
