Article content Mark Carney is again guilty of supreme hypocrisy in announcing his Liberal government will prioritize development of a Canadian defence industry. If providing support to domestic firms, technology and IP assets is so important, why did his government just purchase an over-the-horizon (OTH) defence system from an Australian company? It’s not like there isn’t a Canadian company that has developed the same capability and was ready and able to sell its system to Canada. Oh, yeah, there is a Canadian defence manufacturer with an OTH system! Developed in conjunction with DND and other Canadian partners, in other words, including our tax dollars, if I am not mistaken.
Yay, Liberals, Go Canada, buy Australian. If this purchase is indicative of Carney’s concept of support for our domestic industry and defence capabilities, it’s not a great start. It is more reminiscent of his pro-American relocation move with Brookfield.
Absolutely indefensible not supporting our Canadian firm, wannabe PM Carney. MIKE ALAIN OTTAWA I do believe this country is broken; not in the way most think, but in the general scheme of things, which ensures lower-income individuals are subsidized to the point that their standard of living is not far from the lower end of the working middle class. You can also throw in provinces that collect subsidies from others in the name of equalization.
Then add to that the upper-income earners like Mark Carney who look down their noses at the working class, yet still expect them to pick up the tab for their grandiose plans to save the world. Not that long ago, the middle class was the largest demographic and was able to call the shots, but that has changed and, although they are still paying the bills in this country, they no longer have a say in how their money is being spent. If this country is to not just survive, but thrive, it needs to put the working class first and stop pandering to the rest.
WAYNE BOYCE CARLETON PLACE So Mark Carney says Pierre Poilievre is using U.S.-style politics by using American-style slogans.
Then we find out that it was Carney’s political team that planted buttons at a Conservative rally with American-style slogans printed on them! Come on, Nepean, is this really the kind of person you will be proud to call your MP? Let’s have some backbone and elect someone who has served our country in both the military and police services. I, for one, will be voting Barbara Bal and encourage all residents of this riding to do the same. GLEN LAPENSKIE NEPEAN Your letters are welcome, at: OttSun.
