A community clean-up led by a nine-year-old school pupil has kick-started the launch of a new monthly litter-picking initiative in Acrefair. Jacob Smith, a pupil at Ysgol Rhosymedre, spearheaded the first #StayOnSide Cefn Litter Pickers, on Llangollen Road. Organised by Cefn Community Council, the initiative aims to create pride in the local community by bringing a team of of all ages and abilities together.

Volunteers collected over 11 bags of rubbish, removed fly-tipped items, and cleared away car wheel trims and copper cable during the clean-up. The team included Barbara Lloyd of Cefn Mawr Museum, Community Development Officer Andrew Ruscoe, Councillor Paul Blackwell, Lucy Gregory of the litter pickers group, and the Chairman of Cefn Community Council, Phil Vaughan. “Seeing young people like Jacob step up and take pride in their community fills me with hope and pride,” said Chairman Mr.

Phil Vaughan. “This is what our community is all about – unity, action, and pride in where we live. “I encourage everyone to get involved – the difference we can make together is remarkable.
