The campaign, which kicked off in Kwahu’s Obomeng township during Easter festivities, engages residents and visitors on proper waste management practices.Akosua Bosompemaa Amoako, leader of the Jospong Group of Companies’ youth wing, explained the strategic choice of Kwahu for the launch. “With thousands gathering here for Easter, it’s an ideal platform to amplify our message about designated waste disposal and community cleanliness,” she told reporters.

The team distributed educational materials and secured commitments from drivers, traders, and residents in Obomeng, Atibie, and Mpraeso to support the initiative. The campaign precedes the revival of National Sanitation Day, which will designate the first Saturday of each month for coordinated clean-up activities nationwide. Partners including Zoomlion Ghana, The Church of Pentecost, and the Environmental Service Providers Association are backing the effort, which focuses on behavioral change rather than temporary clean-ups.

Amoako emphasized the long-term vision: “We’re targeting mindset shifts to address Ghana’s sanitation challenges at their root.” The initiative will expand to other regions, leveraging youth networks to establish sustainable waste management practices. The Ministry of Local Government has endorsed the approach, recognizing its potential to complement policy measures with grassroots mobilization.

Kwahu’s enthusiastic reception has encouraged organizers, who view public participation as critical for transforming Ghana’s sanitation culture. As the campaign grows, its success may hinge on maintaining momentum beyond symbolic clean-up days and institutionalizing responsible waste disposal habits in daily community life.
