KUALA LUMPUR: Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of YTL Land and Development Bhd and the master developer of Sentul East and Sentul West in Kuala Lumpur, is set to establish a community toy library at UTC Sentul. In collaboration with YTL Foundation, the company has forged a transformative partnership with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and Toy Libraries Malaysia to bring this initiative to life. The partnership was formalised through the signing of an Agreement of Action on April 10, signifying a united commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive space where children—regardless of their background—can play, learn, and flourish.

Slated to open in the next quarter, the Sentul Toy Library aims to spark a new chapter in early childhood development—serving as a bold step towards empowering young minds and building more connected, resilient communities. It will serve as a dynamic hub for young families, offering free access to educational toys, books, and creative learning materials for children aged 0 to 12.DBKL, as the city's governing body, leads this initiative under its broader mission to enhance community welfare and engagement.

Toy Libraries Malaysia, with its long-standing commitment to play-based learning, brings deep expertise in creating impactful child-centric spaces.Meanwhile, Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd and YTL Foundation are key enablers, providing crucial funding and support to bring the vision to life.Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, YBhg Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative.

"This partnership marks an important step towards nurturing a more caring and inclusive city for our young ones. I look forward to the official launch next quarter, and I hope more partners and communities will come on board to help bring more toy libraries to life across Kuala Lumpur," she said in a statement.More than just a play space, the library will host regular community-based activities, including guided play sessions, parenting workshops, and storytelling programmes—helping to strengthen family bonds and build meaningful neighbourhood connections.

As the first initiative of its kind in Sentul, the toy library represents a model for sustainable, child-friendly urban development. It is also a powerful demonstration of how partnerships between the public, private, and non-profit sectors can deliver meaningful impact. In line with both national and international priorities for holistic childhood development, the project champions the right of every child to access safe, joyful, and enriching play environments.

President of Toy Libraries Malaysia, Datin Wong Poai Hong, added, "Play is a fundamental right of every child. With this toy library, we are creating a safe and stimulating environment that nurtures curiosity, imagination, and social interaction."Echoing the collaborative spirit, Datuk Kathleen Chew, Programme Director of YTL Foundation, shared, "We believe in the power of play to enrich children's lives and foster stronger community ties.

This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to ensuring every child, regardless of background, has access to joyful and meaningful learning experiences."© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
