Qatar tribune Darlene Regis The Traffic Awareness and Ramadan Iftar Drive (TARID) marked its 13th edition this year under the leadership of Mildred Ngoaban-Lloren, who has spearheaded the initiative since 2011. “Organising this event reflects the benevolence of the Host Country towards its residents and citizens. It is a gesture of great appreciation,” Lloren said.
First inspired by the Qatar Living Volunteers group in 2010, the campaign was paused for two years in 2020 and 2021 due to national health restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 29, 2025, Al Jaber Opticians sponsored the 13th TARID Drive, with support from volunteers representing various expatriate organizations in Qatar. A total of 3,850 Iftar packs were distributed to motorists at key junctions, including Toyota, Ramada, and Bin Omran signals.
A total of 305 volunteers from the Philippines, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India, collaborated to ensure its success. The event’s primary objectives were to promote traffic safety and responsible driving to prevent accidents, provide Iftar meals and refreshments to motorists, and foster unity among community welfare advocates. “I had the privilege of attending a volunteer Iftar delivery program.
The experience was both humbling and fulfilling. It reminded me of the power of community and how small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in people’s lives. I look forward to participating in more such initiatives in the future,” said Mohammad Munjural Hasan.
The event concluded with a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, where all the volunteers gathered to celebrate their collective efforts. Al Jaber Opticians commended the Supreme Elite Eagles Club (SEEC), Guardians Legion Qatar (GLQ), Stone Guardians Brotherhood Inc. (SGBI), and Qatar Volunteers (QV) for leading the event.
