THE Government is hoping to create 40,000 ICT jobs across various sectors by 2030, achieve 50per cent of 5G coverage, reach 80per cent digital inclusion rates across all demographics in the country, have 80 per cent of all Government services accessible online and transform Fiji into a leading digital nation in the Pacific through its newly launched Fiji’s National Digital Strategy 2025–2030.This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications Manoa Kamikamica during his Ministerial speech in Parliament yesterday. The Government also hoped, he added, that by 2030, Fiji would have rolled out a National Digital ID and established a mature Cybersecurity profile, promote gender parity and inclusivity across all digital initiatives and that10per cent of Fiji’s real GDP would have been derived from the contribution of the ICT sector.
“For too long, the vast potential of technology has remained partially tapped, one that was not fully embraced,” Mr Kamikamica said.“This is no longer the case.“This first- ever National Digital Strategy demonstrates this Government’s commitment and is our national compass, charting a course toward improving service delivery, driving inclusive growth, ensuring that all Fijians can participate and thrive in.
”Mr Kamikamica also updated Parliament on the groundwork being put in place on each of the Strategy’s five pillars in order to bring those ambitions to life. The five pillars are: Digital Infrastructure and Cyber Resilience, Digital Inclusion and Empowerment, Innovation-Led Economic Growth, Smart Governance and Digital Public Services, and Sustainable Development and Global Cooperation.“These goals are not just ambitions on paper – they are carefully aligned with our broader development goals, including the National Development Plan 2025-2029 and Vision 2050, reinforcing our aspirations for a prosperous, technologically advanced, and inclusive society,” Mr Kamikamica said.
