Today we are taking a trip back in time to when the Hydrotherapy pool in was officially opened by a very special Royal visitor. On July 5, 2006, all eyes were on Humberston Park School to welcome HRH Sophie, the Countess of Wessex (now Duchess of Edinburgh) as she met with fundraisers, teachers and pupils to open the Hydrotherapy pool. The special event came after many years of in the area, thanks to Brian Marsh and his wife Betty leading the mission to provide a valuable facility for adults and children with disabilities.
Last week, to save the Hydrotherapy pool after it was announced the facility is at risk of closure, due to soaring energy bills and a lack of fundraising in recent years. Amazingly, £40,000 was donated to the pool in just 24 hours - more than enough to cover energy bills for the next year. But because the pool costs £60,000 per year to run, Trustees are still calling on people and organisations to donate.
