For five inmates, it was a day of triumph: each one successfully cleared either the 10th or 12th board exams, giving the jail a rare 100% success rate. Yogesh Pandey from Aligarh and Dharmendra Kumar from Firozabad cleared the high school exams, while Netrapal Singh from Aligarh, and Vishal Kumar and Rajesh Kumar from Hathras, passed the intermediate examinations.
Senior superintendent of Aligarh prison , Brijendra Yadav said," Five inmates, aged between 25 and 28, came forward, eager to continue their education. We completed all necessary formalities. Today, it feels like a small ray of light has entered through the prison walls.
" Yadav added, "Yogesh has been in jail since Feb 2021 under the charge of murder. He scored 63.8% marks in high school.
Dharmendra Kumar, booked under IPC 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid), was brought to jail on Nov 18, 2023, and scored 67%." The officer said: "Among the three who passed intermediate, Netrapal, who was jailed under charges of rape and Pocso Act on Oct 1, 2020, scored 49.4%; Vishal, lodged on May 2, 2024, for rape, scored 55%; and Rajesh, also accused of rape and jailed on April 4, 2023, scored 60%.
