All it took was 24-hours and a desire to make change, big reward for fallen

Stories of resilience and grit filled Wodonga's CrossFit TMA.

Twenty-four hours of sweat, strength, and backbone unfolded at a Wodonga gym at the weekend. or signup to continue reading As part of Anzac Day commemorations, hundreds gathered at CrossFit TMA to push their limits in tribute to those who have served the nation. saw participants dig deep, enduring pain and exhaustion, all while raising funds to support veterans in need of food, shelter, or a home.

With several hours still remaining, the event had already raised more than $66,000 for CrossFit TMA Wodonga owner and physical training instructor at Bandiana's Gaza Ridge Barracks, Sheree Willcox said it had "surpassed expectations". Mrs Willcox said there were many members who had served not only in the defence force but as a police officer too or were still serving in the gym. "We are so stoked with how much we've raised," she said.



The event was more than just gruelling workouts. "It was also about coming together for a greater cause - the 13 teams of six have done the hard work and are rewarded with their efforts," she said. Gym member and retired detective Graeme Simpfendorfer said this year's event hit differently.

After his brother, Gerard Simpfendorfer, died on February 4, he wanted to honour him because he "was a man who gave so much through his policing career". "He served with integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment to others," he said. "His service and sacrifice left a lasting impact, and I want to ensure his legacy continues to inspire.

" He said the challenge was not just about endurance, but also "remembering those who gave everything in the line of duty". "It's about pushing ourselves in their honour, raising funds to support those who serve and those left behind," he said. People with different fitness levels, ages, and abilities worked together to get through the night.

Mrs Willcox said she was in awe of every single person who endured the workout. "The workouts are written by a fallen hero," Mrs Willcox said. She said the energy in the gym was undeniably hard to watch, but a significant part of the 24 hours.

"A legacy has been built within our community," she said. "It can be quite emotional for some people, and it's a reminder that life is quite short. "So live every day to the fullest.
