ALMOST half of all public electric vehicle charging points in West Yorkshire are located in Leeds, a new report has revealed. On Wednesday, West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) will discuss its Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy, which will shape the future roll-out of EV charging points in the region. Data included in a report to members reveals that as of January, there were 1,345 publicly accessible charge points in West Yorkshire, managed by more than 25 different operators.

This equates to 56 chargers per 100,000 people, far below the English average of 111 chargers per 100,000 people. Despite this, there has been a rapid increase in the number of charging points in the past year. More than a third of chargers in West Yorkshire are rapid at 50kW and above, which can charge a car in approximately 30 minutes.

Of the 1,345 public charge points, almost half are in Leeds, with 620 charge points. This is followed by Bradford (240), Wakefield (205), Kirklees (160), and Calderdale (120). Last year, WYCA had a public consultation on EV charging infrastructure.

It received 1,685 responses. Members of the Transport Committee will discuss the consultation and the EV strategy at a meeting in Wellington House, Leeds, at 2pm on Wednesday..
