Arlington is gearing up for the international crowds soon to flood the city as it prepares to host part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. City officials briefed the Arlington City Council with updates on Tuesday about the various measures being implemented to deliver a memorable experience. According to the City of Arlington , discussions amongst city stakeholders and regional working groups have covered safety, beautification, and operational logistics.
There has also been a focus on community outreach and media relations. In a move designed to accommodate the diverse World Cup audience, plans include an 'Ambassador Row' at Choctaw Stadium for the convenience of international visitors. This initiative will cater to the needs of guests requiring embassy services.
Based on projections, a significant portion of visitors, 54% to be exact, are expected to hail from various countries, with less than half, about 41%, speaking English. In a statement obtained by the Office of Communication, Jennifer Wichmann, Deputy City Manager, highlighted Arlington's commitment to internationalism and hospitality. "The Ambassador Row project will give Arlington a chance to show our visitors that Arlington is an international city capable of playing on a global stage," she said, as per the City of Arlington .
Her statements underscore an effort to strengthen international diplomacy and provide necessary support for the visitors in case of emergencies. Among the key dates leading up to the World Cup highlights are Aug. 31, for the launch of volunteer recruitment, the all-important FIFA Draw in December 2025 to determine the matches slated for Arlington, and the announcement of base camps in March 2026.
These stages mark critical junctures in Arlington's orchestration of what is one of the most-watched sporting events worldwide..
