Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development, confirmed this in a press statement today.“Following successful drilling in SK433 AKW and progression into development, with first production anticipated by 2026, the project presents opportunities for further onshore activities to follow a similar path,” Awang Tengah said after chairing a meeting with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros). The meeting was to discuss developments involving gas-to-power initiatives, oil and gas production facilities, as well as essential land-related development required for the SK433 AKW project.

The Petros delegation was led by its senior vice president of Sarawak Resource Management Datuk Abang Arabi Abang Narudin.“We will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders, partners, and government agencies as we progress. This initiative reflects our commitment to infrastructure and sustainable development in Sarawak,” said Abang Arabi.

The development initiatives presented include the construction of road access, crude oil transfer terminals, a gas power plant in AKW, as well as related infrastructure projects in the pipeline that will benefit surrounding communities, he said.“The onshore data acquisition programmes will kick off with the acquisition of Enhanced Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometer (eFTG) data in the second quarter of 2025, which is expected to enhance understanding of hydrocarbon prospectivity and mineral potential onshore Sarawak.“Other onshore blocks, including those covering Oya, Mukah, Balingian, Bintulu, Tatau, Miri, Marudi, Lawas, and Limbang are also part of Petros’ comprehensive de-risking and upgrading plan,” said Abang Arabi.

Further plans for the interior regions of onshore Sarawak will be formulated and refined based on the outcomes of this work, he added. The meeting was also attended by Ministry for Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi, senior officers from the Land and Survey Department as well as other relevant agencies. The post Awang Tengah: First production for Miri’s Adong Kechil West onshore drilling project expected in 2026 appeared first on Borneo Post Online.
