STEVE Williamson Ong Bahani, a businessman and comebacking bowler from the early 2000s, claimed the Sugbuanon Bowlers United’s (SugBU) Bowler of the Week title on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the SM Seaside Bowling & Leisure Center. Competing out of the lowest division, Bahani defied expectations in the final shootout, delivering an impressive 216 pinfalls to surpass Division A champion Arthur Tapaya (186) and Division B winner Ted Convocar (128) Convocar, a Manila-based bowler working at a casino in Cebu, made a strong showing in Division B but lost steam in the stepladder match. Similarly, Tapaya, a retired banker and Division A champion, couldn’t match Bahani’s performance in their head-to-head matchup.

In the qualifying rounds, Tapaya led Division A with 895 pinfalls, finishing ahead of Richard Turner (867) and Aui Padawan (797). In Division B, Convocar booked his place in the finals with 761 pinfalls, outlasting Dory Enoveso (745) and MJ Villa (741) in a closely contested race. Bahani, meanwhile, topped Division C with 719 pinfalls, narrowly edging out Romy Mauro (717), while Bebie Mauro took third with 670.

Having made his bowling debut in the early 2000s, Bahani demonstrated that experience and precision can triumph against the odds. His remarkable victory not only clinched the Bowler of the Week title but also marked a significant milestone in his career. / Glenn C.
