MORRIS — The Morris/Chokio-Alberta baseball team swept an important early season doubleheader.The Tigers beat Montevideo 6-1 and 12-4 in West Central Conference games.In Game 2, Alex Asmus got the complete-game win, striking out two with no walks.
He scattered five hits. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run and four RBIs. Riley Asmus was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a hit-by-pitch, two runs and an RBI.
Jaden Hendrickson went 2-for-2 with a double and a hit-by-pitch for Montevideo. Jordan Cook went 1-for-1, Gannon Reidinger was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Brendan Koosmann was 1-for-3 for the Thunder Hawks.In Game 1, Drew Huebner struck out 11, walked three and allowed four hits and three earned runs to get the complete-game victory.
Montevideo took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Morris/CA countered with four runs in the fifth inning and seven more in the seventh.Andrew Marty was 3-for-4 with two runs, a stolen base and a walk and Jack Kehoe was 3-for-4 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI for Morris/CA. Jonah Huebner went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, two RBIs and Alex Asmus was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for the Tigers.
For the Thunder Hawks, Benjamin Gunlogson was 2-for-4 with a run.Montevideo is next scheduled to play a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
