BBC Breakfast hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were visibly moved after the programme showed emotional London Marathon footage. During the latest instalment, BBC Breakfast had followed the fathers of two girls killed in the Southport attack, who took part in the London Marathon for their daughters. David Stancombe and Sergio Aguiar's daughters Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, were murdered in the Southport mass stabbing last summer.
The pair are raising money for projects in memory of their daughters and Bebe King, six, who was also killed at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July. BBC Breakfast followed the fathers and their families as they completed the London Marathon, where they broke down in tears at the finish line. The emotional footage showed Sergio breaking down in tears as he got over the finish line while David, who also finished the London Marathon, said: "It's what she wanted [Elsie] so I was always going to do it, yeah, and I hope I've done her proud.
" The moving footage ended with them all hugging and crying at the London Marathon finish line. When it went back to the studio, hosts Sally and Jon took a moment to compose themselves before presenting, where they appeared to visibly fight back tears. Sally said: "Thank you for letting us film, that is what I think we want to say to these incredible families for sharing part of yesterday and a hugely emotional end to the London Marathon.
” Jon added: "What a performance to do that for reasons they're doing it, absolutely unbelievable, well done!" This is a breaking showbiz story and is being constantly updated.
