BBC 's Alexis Green had been dispatched to Oxford to report live on residents whose lives had been impacted by flooding - but her mind went totally blank mid-sentence. She stuttered as she tried to find a word, going from "house" to "hands" before regaining her train of thought. She brutally mocked herself, curling her lip up in frustration and pointing a finger at her head to show her annoyance with the sudden brain freeze.
A weather report in the studio had been redirected to Alexis, who was standing beside the River Thames as she discussed a series of flooding crisis moments. "Residents here have learnt to live with flooding over the years and some say the 2007 floods were the worst they've ever experienced," she began. "Now, with a warming climate, rainfall is expected to become heavier and more persistent in the future, which is why people here have taken matters into their own homes, hou-, own, own, hands.
" Then she gave up for a second, before adding: "Basically, to protect their homes and their businesses." The blunder, which took place during a South Today report, was surprisingly not edited out on the iPlayer version. However, viewers turned what could have been an embarrassing moment into a light-hearted laugh, with one writing: "@AlexisGreenTV we love you as much as we love live TV.
" Of course, blunders and bloopers during live television are nothing new - and they've happened around the world, with one newsreader accidentally announcing to the world that the then President was dead. Fox 5's Will Thomas had been reporting on Obama's address to the nation to tell them that Osama Bin Laden had died - but he accidentally mixed up his words, with drastically different results. Thomas "confirmed": " President Obama , speaking from the East Room in the White House, telling the nation and the world that President Obama is, in fact, dead.
" An equally concerning example took place here in the UK, when ITV News at Ten host Rageh Omaar needed urgent medical attention after suffering a suspected mini-stroke mid-broadcast..
