On Monday, professional and amateur athletes will race from Hopkinton to Boylston Street for the 129th edition of the historic Boston Marathon. Approximately 30,000 people will cover the 26.2 miles, adding their own stories to the history of the iconic race.
Hundreds of thousands more will watch them along the route or on TV. Beyond the spectacle of racing, this year's marathon is special because it marks the 250th anniversary of Patriots' Day and 50 years since the very first wheelchair racer was formally recognized.
