Brighouse Town have been relegated from the Northern Premier League East Division. As was the case for their neighbours Albion Sports in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, a points deduction has proved fatal. Albion were docked three points for fielding an ineligible player during a game, and narrowly missed out on the play-offs due to error.
The same mistake and punishment was handed down to Brighouse earlier this month, which left them with a simple task yesterday in their penultimate game of the season. Win and take the relegation fight to the final day, anything else and go down. They did their best against Garforth Town and were much improved off the back of a 3-0 defeat at Bishop Auckland on Saturday.
But despite Garforth being reduced to 10 men late on, Brighouse could only take a point from the game in a 2-2 draw. The point leaves them four points off safety, meaning they have gone down with a game to spare. Liversedge were already relegated going into the Easter Weekend, which was a miserable experience for them.
They lost 2-1 at Heaton Stannington on Good Friday, then 1-0 at home to Ossett United yesterday. Liversedge (blue) have had a bumpy campaign, and have been relegated with time to spare. (Image: Wider Frame) Guiseley sealed their play-off place with a 2-0 win at Blyth Spartans on Saturday, but their battle for third spot and a home semi-final will go to the final day this coming weekend, as they suffered a 2-0 Easter Monday defeat at home to Gainsborough Trinity.
Beleaguered Farsley Celtic have long been guaranteed to finish bottom of National League North, having not even picked up a point since drawing with Marine on January 28. They came agonisingly close to ending that run last Tuesday, conceding at the death to lose 2-1 against Radcliffe, but they were more comprehensively beaten yesterday, going down 3-0 to Curzon Ashton..

Brighouse relegated with neighbours after points deduction denies last-day drama
Brighouse Town failed to win yesterday, only drawing 2-2 at home to Garforth Town, meaning they have gone down, partly thanks to a points deduction too.
