A KOREAN style brunch cafe offering the flavours of Korea has been given small trader grant to upgrade their café front.

Bon Dabang café situated at Sovereign Centre in Boscombe has been running for almost a year offering traditional Korean dishes such as mandu, kimbap and yubu cho bap to the Korean cuisine lovers. The café offers traditional drink such as fruit ade and tea using their handmade fruit syrup. The café recently benefitted from a small trader grant awarded by BCP council.

The grant is supporting independent businesses by covering new shopfronts, internal roller shutters, new shopfront signage or repair, internal improvements for change of use or to bring back into use and external repairs, guttering, windows and doors. Café co-owner, Juyeon Jung, is very excited with the new entrance which has improved both security and insulation, making the café warmer and more welcoming – especially through the winter months. The café’s previous front door was not functional, and shutters were used to close the café instead.

She said: “We are trying to improve our café in best way. And we have really lots of lovely regular customers who will come here, and they do enjoy their food. "We always wanted to cover the café front, mainly for security and to help with keeping the café warm in winter.

But financially, we couldn’t do it at the time. So, customer especially our regular customer, they noticed straight away anyway, and then they really welcomed this big change. And they brought more customers.

” Juyeon, 51, believes the grant is supporting the independent business in Boscombe town centre when lately everything is shutting down due to financial crisis and rising cost of living. She said: “I really hope they continue supporting this kind of small business and maybe they can make even the grant will be bigger because we actually needed more, but there support currently is just enough for us.” Juyeon runs this business with her friend and hoping to expand in coming years to other branches in Bournemouth.

She said: “I did everything from the scratch. It’s my kind of almost my second home. I want to see this business go really well all the time, and I will do my best in every way.

We are trying to extend our business.” “We shared about new refurb in our Korean community in Bournemouth. That really helped.

We support each other, and that made a big difference.".
