Status : cleared Chennai: Flyers and vistors of Chennai airport will soon have a place to sit and relax. The plaza under construction near the arrival terminals will become partially operational by the end of April, authorities said. "The canopy work is underway.
After this, there will be enough shade for people to rest. We are considering opening it up partially for flyers and visitors this month," an official said. The entire plaza, however, will be fully operational with all its planned facilities by July, airport authorities said.
Construction on the plaza began in February 2024, and officials initially planned for inauguration in February 2025. However, the timeline was extended due to delays in civil construction. The plaza will feature a seating area, walkway, selfie spot, eateries, toilets and drinking water kiosks.
The plaza will have a left luggage facility for passengers who want to drop their baggage for shorter durations if they step out of the airport and return within a day or two. Sources said that authorities are still contemplating shifting the pickup point for personal vehicles near the plaza. The decision will be made once the construction is complete.
