It's currently an 'ongoing matter'

Chris Eubank Jr ’s points victory over Conor Benn was overshadowed by his failure to make the contracted 160lb middleweight limit by just 0.05lb. Despite the British Boxing Board of Control monitoring his weight throughout camp, Eubank Jr arrived late to the official weigh-in and tipped the scales at 160.

05lb. To put that into perspective, 0.05lb is roughly the weight of a single AA battery or a field mouse (about 23g).

As a result of the missed weight, Eubank Jr was obliged to pay Benn a $500,000 (£400,000) penalty and now faces further questions from the BBBofC over post-weigh-in videos he posted. Conor Benn weighed in just after 11am on Friday, comfortably making the weight. Eubank Jr did not arrive until around 12pm, however, leaving him minimal opportunity to shed the final 0.

05lb. “If he’d have got there on time, considering he was only slightly over, he’d have made weight,” BBBofC official Robert Smith told BoxingScene. The delay meant Eubank Jr could not implement any last-minute measures to drop the fraction he needed.

As standard practice, both fighters were weighed on the Wednesday of fight week to track their progress towards the limit. Smith confirmed that Eubank Jr’s weight-loss trajectory mirrored his previous camps and raised no red flags. “We had no concerns,” Smith said.

“Eubank was on track to make 160lb.” Despite this, the late arrival at Friday’s official weigh-in proved decisive. Chris Eubank Jr's Concerning Footage In the hours following the weigh-in, Eubank Jr posted footage of himself dripping in sweat in a heat suit, appearing visibly gaunt and dehydrated.

Under BBBofC rules, crash-weight techniques such as saunas or heat suits are prohibited. The board has launched an inquiry and will request details from Eubank Jr about when the videos were filmed and the methods he used. “It is an ongoing matter,” Smith stated.

Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn's professional boxing records (as of 29/04/25) Chris Eubank Jr Conor Benn Fights 38 24 Wins 35 23 Losses 3 1 Eubank Jr told the BBC that, after missing weight, he asked Benn’s team for permission to urinate on the scales to make the limit. He claimed their refusal was driven by “an agenda” to secure the penalty fee. Benn’s camp has not publicly responded to this allegation.

The BBBofC will continue its inquiry into Eubank Jr’s weight-cutting methods and request further details on his use of the heat suit. That investigation will not affect the unanimous decision victory , which is already official on the record. Eubank Jr’s win stands, and both fighters can now turn their attention to future bouts.

Arrangements for a second fight are already being made...
