The Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club met beside the golden sands to display their cars before the group headed off for their annual Drive-It Day. These pictures were taken by keen photographer and classic car admirer Dave Stephens. The event was run by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs which celebrates all things classic and vintage cars, with meets and events taking place across the country all on the same day.
National Drive It Day is held each year on a Sunday in April. It is the National Awareness Day for the historic vehicle community. It is when historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public at large have the opportunity to celebrate the 'One Thousand Mile Trial'.
This was an 11-day round-Britain public test that started on 23 April 1900 to "prove the viability" of the new-fangled invention—the motor car. Today, Drive-it Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and support amongst the public for the historic vehicle movement, as part of our ongoing campaign to keep transport heritage on UK roads, without restriction. In recent years the event has fundraiser for the NSPCC to raise money for its vital Childline service, focussed on 'Drive-it Day'.
We do this by selling ‘rally plaques’ that people can buy to put on their car (or 'Ride-it Day' plates for motorcycles), to show their support. All profit from these goes to Childline, and in 2024 (donations included), we raised £38,100. So far, over the four years we’ve been working with Childline, we’ve raised £177,170 for the charity.
It’s a chance for the public to see and experience historic vehicles and our transport heritage as we campaign to keep yesterday's vehicles on tomorrow’s roads. The Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club (JEC) is the largest Jaguar club in the world and creates unique experiences for Jaguar owners. Founded in 1984, it is based in Bristol and has regional representation throughout the world.
