CNN was halted for a piece of breaking news – and a brutal blow to US president Donald Trump after his major U-turn. Presenter Erin Burnett brought the programme to a standstill to update on Trump’s tariff war with China , where the hashtag #TrumpChickenedOut has been trending since he reportedly agreed to slash tariff hikes by half. Erin reported: “Trump chickened out.
At least that is what the Chinese are saying. That post with the viral hashtag #TrumpChickenedOut now has 150million views in China and counting after Trump all but caved to Beijing.” Footage was shown of Trump explaining: “We are gonna have a fair deal with China, it’s gonna be fair”, insisting he is “actively” talking to China “every day”.
But Erin delivered a devastating blow to the president, continuing: “‘Every day’ and ‘active’ – the implication here sounds like there’s a big deal that’s being worked on, things are happening, we’re moving forward. “The problem is, he was undermined in that sentiment and rhetoric by his own treasury secretary, who told reporters this morning that ‘both sides are waiting to speak to the other’. That’s the whole waiting by the phone thing that’s been going on for weeks now!” She added: “Talking takes two seconds in a situation like this, it literally takes two seconds.
