Conor Benn was in tears after his grudge match defeat to Chris Eubank Jr and vowed to return for revenge after the first loss of his professional career

Conor Benn has confessed that enduring "defeat is hard to swallow" and expressed an intent for "revenge" following his unanimous decision loss to Chris Eubank Jr at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The first loss in his career was inflicted upon Benn, with the judges unanimously tipping the score 116-112 in favour of Eubank Jr. The next generation of rivals, whose fathers had iconic bouts in the 1990s, provided quite the show in north London, making it a likely candidate for fight of the year.

"It's a hard one to swallow," an emotional Benn shared with reporters. "I didn't come into the fight thinking it would be that close, I didn't come into it to lose, I came in to win and I was not good enough and I need to do better." He added, determinedly: "I want the revenge, I want my revenge.

"Inactivity played a big part, I think. It took me back. I had Eubank hurt several times but just couldn't finish him off, and next time I'll make sure I can," Benn insisted.

Though Chris Eubank Sr labelled his son a "disgrace" over an incident involving an egg thrown at Benn in February, he stood by his son's side, indicating a reconciliation. The triumph launches the 35 year old Eubank Jr into prominence, maintaining the edge the Eubank name has held over the Benn family since his father's win and draw against Nigel Benn in their historic 1990s clashes. Thrilled by his father's supportive presence, Eubank Jr acknowledged, "A lot, it was special.

He needed to be here, all of this is because of what he did and we did it again. "I'm happy to have this man with me. I've upheld the family name like we said we were going to and so its onwards and upwards.

"The fact that our fathers did what they did all those years ago, it brings out another soul and spirit and that's what we both showed tonight." Eubank Jr was notably absent from his post-fight press conference as he was whisked away to hospital for checks. "Everything surprised me, I didn't know he had what he had in him," Eubank Jr remarked about Benn.

"I thought I'd break him early, I underestimated him, I didn't train for a fight like that, he's never shown that, then again he's never had to show it, he had to show it tonight and so did I.".
