A CONSULATION period has started giving Prestatyn residents the chance to share their views on how to improve the town’s High Street. Roughly £20million of Levelling Up funding has been provided for capital regeneration projects within Rhyl, Prestatyn and Denbigh, as included within the grant application for the former Vale of Clwyd constituency. Denbighshire County Council is looking to make improvements to High Street’s “public realm” (visible space).
A council statement read: With a long sandy beach and good access to major transport routes, it is also a very popular tourist destination. “We would like to understand more about people's travelling and spending habits when visiting Prestatyn town centre. “We hope to encourage and support people to consider active travel, and to choose independent retailers and outlets when shopping or visiting cafés, pubs and restaurants.
” The council said it has scope to carry out small improvements to High Street in the following areas: An online survey is available for residents to complete on the council’s website until May 11. Paper copies of the survey can also be collected and returned to Prestatyn Library and One Stop Shop, on King's Avenue. In addition, the council is holding a week-long engagement period with High Street business owners during the week commencing May 19.
A separate registration form is available for High Street business owners to fill in, so that they can received updates from the council on the progress of this project. The council statement added: “Our intention is to find out what residents and visitors think. “Then, we will aim to carry out engagement with businesses in the week commencing May 19, where you will be able to see the results of the residents’ and visitors’ survey and provide your own feedback.
“We hope that, by understanding what is important to people who live in, work in or visit Prestatyn regularly, that we will be able to design a modest improvement scheme which will help to make High Street more appealing and encourage people to spend more time there.”.
