Vadodara: A couple was duped of Rs 5.58 lakh allegedly by a travel agent under the pretext of obtaining a Canada work visa for their daughter. They filed a cheating complaint against Gagandeepsingh Amardeepsingh at the Gorwa police station.

According to the police, Bhavita Patel saw an advertisement about the visa agency on Facebook last year. The advertisement also mentioned assistance in obtaining work permits. Patel visited the agency's office and met Amardeepsingh, who explained the visa process and the documents required.

He informed Patel that it would cost her Rs 13 lakh to send her, her husband, and daughter to Canada and secure work visas. Patel submitted all the necessary documents and transferred Rs 5.58 lakh to the accused's account.

The accused promised visas within a few months. However, the work visas never arrived. When Patel inquired about their visas, the accused claimed that their application was cancelled and demanded more money for re-application.

Patel refused to pay any more money and requested a refund of the fees she paid. The accused initially did not return the money and later issued a cheque that bounced. Patel then approached the Gorwa police and filed a cheating complaint.
