KHANEWAL - Significant progress has been made in Khanewal under Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Clean Punjab” initiative. A district control room for the waste management company has been fully functional at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, aiming to enhance monitoring and efficiency in sanitation services. Deputy Commissioner Dr Salma Suleman, while briefing media representatives, emphasized that maintaining cleanliness and hygiene is the district’s top priority under the Chief Minister’s vision.

She stated that the district and its tehsils have been divided into various sectors to ensure systematic waste management. Under the newly introduced system, sanitary workers are now collecting waste directly from homes. Dr.



Suleman highlighted that Khanewal stands out as the only district in Multan Division where a private waste management company is fully functional. Citizens can register their complaints and suggestions through a toll-free helpline (1139), and public awareness banners featuring sanitation workers have been installed across streets, neighborhoods, and markets. She further informed that she is personally conducting surprise inspections to assess cleanliness standards.

Addressing concerns regarding staffing shortages, Dr. Suleman assured that the issue of manpower in private companies would soon be resolved, leading to a noticeable reduction in sanitation-related problems in the near future. Recognizing the vital role of media, Dr.

Suleman urged journalists to act as the ‘eyes of society’ by identifying issues promptly, assuring them of swift action. She invited the media to collaborate in ensuring the success and continuous improvement of the new system, stressing that outsourcing has introduced greater transparency in sanitation operations. Following the briefing, Dr. Suleman led journalists on a visit to the newly established District Control Room. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ghulam Mustafa Sihar and Waste Management Company Manager Usman Khurshid provided further insights into the control room’s functioning and monitoring system.
