Deontay Wilder was dropped heavily by a boxer who had more losses on his record than wins. In his esteemed career, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has cemented his status as one of the biggest punchers the sport has ever seen. Wilder left Siarhei Liakhovich twitching on the floor , after detonating a massive right hand on his jaw, and his knockout victories over Luis Ortiz have gone down in the boxing history books.
However, while he’s put plenty of people on the canvas, he’s no stranger to being knocked to the ground himself. WOW: Deontay Wilder destroyed a former soccer hooligan with a horrifying knockout blow Deontay Wilder got dropped by Harold Sconiers On October 15, 2010, Deontay Wilder went to war with Harold Sconiers, inside the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, USA. His opponent, who had a 17-20-2 record, was meant to offer nothing more than target practice for the power puncher.
However, when they set foot in the ring together, what was meant to be an easy fight, turned into a crisis. Initially, the bout played out according to the script, with Wilder dropping his opponent twice in the first round. At the end of the opening segment, the journeyman’s trainer suggested that he fake a jab to the body, before exploding with an overhand right.
And it’s fair to say his advice worked a treat. The underdog landed the shot so heavily that a voice in Sconiers’ head said, ‘He’s out on his feet’. Within an instant, the future world champion was down and looked potentially out.
In an interview with SportBIBLE , Sconiers reminisced: “Yeah, he was down, and he was down kind of with his head down, just sitting there like for three or four seconds. “Ref is counting, I’m like, ‘Come on, come on.’ And he starts to move, he starts to get up, he turns around, he’s pulling on the ropes, and he’s struggling and he’s getting up slowly.
“And I swear, I think it was at like number nine where he got up. It was eight or nine, [but] it was late in count. I believe it was nine.
I was just on the edge [...
] I was just super excited and looking for that count to go past the ten mark.” While Wilder was hurt, he managed to survive the storm, eventually making his way into the fourth round, where he landed two more knockdowns to close the show. Filip Hrgovic lands bombs on Deontay Wilder as explosive sparring footage resurfaces Sconiers isn’t the only boxer who’s managed to land his power on Wilder over the years.
Back when he was just 19, Filip Hrgovic flew over to the UK, to help prepare David Haye for his cancelled fights with Tyson Fury . During this period, he had the opportunity to trade leather with The Bronze Bomber. In resurfaced footage, Hrgovic connected with massive shots on Wilder .
