BENNINGTON — With heartfelt speeches, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and a crowd of more than 300 community members, Devlin Funeral Home officially opened its doors on Saturday, April 12, marking a new chapter for the locally owned business. Co-owners Shawn and Anne Myrle Devlin were joined by friends, family, and neighbors at the grand opening ceremony, hosted in partnership with the Southwestern Vermont Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Executive Director Matt Harrington, and Membership Manager Erika Floriani led the ribbon cutting and presented the Devlins with a ceremonial wooden plaque to commemorate the occasion.
The couple thanked the community for its patience and ongoing support throughout the planning and renovation process. “We’re incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and encouragement we've received,” said Shawn Devlin. “It’s been a journey getting here, but we’re honored to now serve this town with care and compassion.
” The funeral home is located at 332 North Street in Bennington, in the fully renovated space that formerly housed Jensen’s, a beloved local diner. The transformation from restaurant to funeral home honors the building’s legacy. A display of artwork and memorabilia adorns the walls, including a shadow box featuring souvenirs and vintage posters from Jensen’s, which closed in December 2022 after 62 years in business.
Inside, the modern facility offers a peaceful and welcoming environment. It includes two service and reception areas — a large gathering room and an adjacent space for memorial services — along with a private family room and administrative offices. Devlin Funeral Home is now open and certified to provide full funeral services to families across Southern Vermont.
