Daily Post Nigeria Don’t let politics divide Kano – Shettima appeals for unity amid political tensions Home News Politics Metro Entertainment Sport News Don’t let politics divide Kano – Shettima appeals for unity amid political tensions Published on April 19, 2025 By Nana Ismail Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged politicians in Kano State to uphold unity and not allow political differences to sow division among them. He made the appeal on Saturday evening during a condolence visit to the Emir’s palace over the death of the Galadiman Kano, late Abbas Sunusi. Speaking in the presence of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and key political figures from both the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya factions, Shettima emphasized the importance of harmony in the politically influential state.
“It is a mistake for a state like Kano, which is respected at all levels of politics, to be divided or disrupted by political disagreements,” Shettima said. “Kano is a model for the entire Nigeria, so we do not rejoice when we see political rifts or finger-pointing among its people,” he added. He stressed Kano’s central role in Northern Nigeria, saying, “Kano is the heartbeat of the North; whatever affects Kano affects the North.
” In an emotional touch, Shettima said he chose to deliver his message in Hausa to ensure clarity and connection with the audience. “That is why I am delivering this message in Hausa, even though I am not a native Hausa speaker, but I have tried my best to make sure you understand me well,” said Shettima. He also offered prayers for the late Galadiman Kano, expressing hope that God grants him paradise.
The Vice President extended his sympathies to families affected by recent bandit attacks in Shanono Local Government Area, where some individuals were kidnapped and others killed. “We are praying to God to grant us peace in Nigeria and across the nation,” Shettima added.
