DU Topper With 50+ Certificates, 10+ Medals Can’t Get Internship Because Skills Matter More

For most of our childhood, we were taught one thing – study hard, get good marks, be a topper, and life will be sorted. A good job? Check. Opportunities? Of course.

Success? Guaranteed. But as we grow up, reality hits us like a truck. Because the world has shifted.



Marks may look good on paper, but it’s your skills that decide whether you get that opportunity or not.A first-year English (Hons) student from Delhi University’s Hansraj College, Bisma, recently shared a brutally honest post on LinkedIn that’s gone viral. Despite being a college topper with more than 50 certificates, 10 medals, and 10 trophies, she hasn’t been able to land a single internship.

But sir, I wasn’t prepared for this question! All my professors and teachers and relatives said, ‘Focus on your studies. Studies will bear fruit, this won’t’,” she added.

But now, standing at the crossroads of theory and reality, she realised that the job market plays by a different set of rules.“Companies don’t want to hire toppers with no skills besides rote learning, but people who are proficient in a skill with decent marks.”She’s not asking students to stop studying or throw their books away.
