Kim Sun-woo, Dyson styling ambassador, demonstrates hair styling using the new “Airwrap Coanda 2X Multi-Styler and Dryer” during a Dyson press technology event held at XYZ Seoul in Seongdong District, Seoul, on April 28. (Yonhap) SEOUL, April 28 (Korea Bizwire) — Dyson unveiled its latest hair styling innovation, the “Airwrap Coanda 2X Multi-Styler and Dryer,” at a pop-up store in Seoul’s Seongsu district on April 28, marking the global debut of the redesigned device in South Korea. The new Airwrap Coanda 2X features Dyson’s most powerful hair motor to date, spinning at 150,000 revolutions per minute — nine times faster than a Formula 1 engine — enabling twice the airflow strength of its predecessor for faster drying.
An AI-based sensor, the “2X Glass Bead Thermistor,” measures air temperature over 1,000 times per second to regulate heat precisely, minimizing the risk of hair damage from excessive heat. “This product allows you to keep your vanity clean while achieving a variety of styles,” said Kim Sun-woo, a Dyson styling ambassador and director of WooSun Hair and Makeup Salon, while demonstrating the device during the launch event. Compared to the original Airwrap, which focused on gentle, natural styling, the new model offers both soft looks and the ability to create firm, defined curls similar to those achieved with traditional curling irons, Kim explained.
Kathleen Pierce, head of Dyson’s Beauty division, introduces the new “Airwrap Coanda 2X Multi-Styler and Dryer” during a Dyson press technology event held at XYZ Seoul in Seongdong District, Seoul, on April 28. (Yonhap) The Airwrap Coanda 2X also introduces “Smart Styling Nozzle” technology for the first time in the product line, incorporating RFID sensors into each styling tool. When one of the six included attachments is connected to the main device, the system automatically adjusts to the optimal temperature and airflow settings, recalling the user’s most recent preferences for added convenience.
During a demonstration, Kim used the “30mm Curling Barrel” to create tight curls on a model’s straight hair within seconds and tamed frizz and flyaways using the “Detangling Smoothing Brush.” “Previously, users needed to manually adjust temperature and airflow settings for each tool,” Kim noted. “Now, the device recognizes the tool and applies the ideal settings automatically, making styling much easier.
” The device’s motor wiring is engineered at an ultra-fine thickness of approximately 90 micrometers — thinner than a strand of human hair — reflecting Dyson’s continued emphasis on precision engineering. “Research and development have always been the heart of Dyson’s innovations,” said Kathleen Pierce, head of Dyson’s Beauty division. “We are thrilled to introduce the new Airwrap Coanda 2X in South Korea first, recognizing the country’s role as a trendsetter in the global beauty market.
” Following its launch in Korea, Dyson plans to expand the availability of the Airwrap Coanda 2X Multi-Styler and Dryer to other markets throughout 2025. Lina Jang ([email protected]).
