Eoin O’Malley: Sandymount’s civil war over cycle lane is a microcosm of a disease in policy-making

If you want to understand why people are disaffected with politics, you might need look no further than Sandymount, the wealthy seaside area of Dublin city. Five years ago, there was an attempt to put in a dual cycle lane and to close a lane of traffic, making Strand Road one way only. Since then, there has been a campaign against it by local residents, led by independent councillor Mannix Flynn, that has been stuck in the court system for four years.
