This has seen United already progressing with plans to sign Matheus Cunha. Now, United in Focus have spoken with transfer expert Graeme Bailey to get the latest on Cunha’s potential arrival, along with several other targets heading into the summer.READ MORE: Everything you need to know about Man Utd’s new head coach – Ruben AmorimPhoto by Malcolm Couzens/Getty ImagesManchester United plans for Matheus Cunha to replace Alejandro GarnachoUnited are currently planning to recruit one attacking midfielder this summer in the knowledge that the club are “expecting Alejandro Garnacho to almost certainly head out the exit doors”.
He continued to explain that despite having a few options, “Garnacho’s likeliest move is back to Atletico Madrid, with his people working on his future.“In terms of Mason Mount. Ruben Amorim likes him a lot, if he can get back to being the Chelsea player – he genuinely feels that he could have a role to play in the future.
”In terms of arrivals in the position, “Cunha’s people have held talks over the weekend, which they feel went well. United are more guarded over the talks, but confirmed they did take place and that he is a player they admire.“United sources confirm that they believe Cunha would be deployed as an attacking midfielder in the Amorim system, behind a new striker.
”Regarding other options, Graeme continues to add that, “Francisco Trincao is a player they really like, Amorim knows him, and the player is willing to come.”Finally, he adds that these are the two first choices right now, with Cunha appearing to be the priority right now.READ: Who is Man Utd target Matheus Cunha? Age, position, stats, release clause and Rio Ferdinand recommendationManchester United targeting youngster options along with a Matheus CunhaWhile signing a ready-made upgrade is the priority, Graeme adds that United are also looking at young options for the position.
“Regarding young options – as we know, United love Jobe Bellingham in terms of analytics, and Chris Rigg as a player – in an ideal world, they want one of the first choices plus one of these two.“Rayan Cherki, they admire his talent hugely, likewise with Tyler Dibling – both are seen as options at this stage. But not priorities.
”“Franco Mastantuono is in the Rigg thinking, regarded as a generational talent, whom they have liked for a long time. “The major issue with him is the belief that he wants to move to Spain. This has been the overriding belief since he first attracted interest.
..and one reason why no Premier League club, such as United, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc, have not stepped up to this point.
”Manchester United plan to use Amad Diallo as a wing-backWith the attack taking priority this summer, a new wing-back could be overlooked this summer and Graeme explains this could see Amad Diallo utilised in the role.“There is a real chance that United will look to use Amad as the RWB in the short term, if they can’t get one in this summer. They hope to, but it is not certain that they will manage to get one over the line.
”Manchester United are paying for previous mistakesDespite big plans this summer, United are still paying for transfer mistakes made by the previous regime.“Sources have confirmed that serious money is due out this summer as payments are due for Andre Onana, Mount and Hojlund. No specifics but certainly believe to be more than £50million and if this is the case, that does impact.
”Manchester United priority transfer positions this summerGraeme finally ran through the squad and indicated where United’s priorities will lie this summer.“Despite work being done to sign a new attacking midfielder, a striker is probably more important, but the club expect both to arrive.“In terms of goalkeeper – they want one, but again not a priority and likely only if they can find a buyer for Onana – Burnley going up does mean Trafford is a little more expensive too.
“United are looking at centre-backs still, but they do have decent numbers in the position, and with Lisandro coming back, it is seen as unlikely to this point.“They would love another good defensive midfielder – but that is all on Casemiro – those talks continue, if they can get him to Saudi – that opens up a few options.”.
