The film chronicles a week in the life of the titular character, Llewyn Davis, a struggling folk singer navigating the iconic Greenwich Village music scene of the early 1960s, as he grapples with his collapsing personal life while clinging to the hope of achieving fame. Oscar Isaac ultimately landed the lead role, which catapulted him to stardom as his breakout role. Vernon, however, disclosed that he was in the running for the part but didn't make the cut.

He reminisced about his passion for filmmaking, "I'm the biggest fan of their movies. And to put it into perspective, before I tell you this story, I made movies growing up with my friends, my sports friends, and I made movies.
I was never allowed to be on camera because I was so bad at acting. I was always the director." However, Vernon also expressed his doubts about joining the film and said, "I immediately was like, there's no way in high hell that I can do this.
I definitely am not built for this. I don't wanna be any more famous than I just got." Reflecting on his audition experience, Vernon recounted being "completely paralyzed" with nerves and later admitted he wasn't cut out for acting when Oscar Isaac ultimately took the lead role.
He elaborated, "The movie ended up being acted by Oscar Isaac, it's a movie called Inside Llewyn Davis. So I'm sitting there, I'm a terrible actor, I've read this thing exactly once..
. It was OK that they were laughing at me, because I was so bad." Concluding his story, Vernon shared an insight into facing reality, "It was one of those learning experiences where if something doesn't feel right to you, and you're not meant to do it, maybe just let it pass.
