LAHORE - The Punjab Agriculture Department has said that farmers should inspect their crops daily keeping in view the current weather conditions. A spokesman for the department said on Sunday that temperature increase of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal had been predicted for south Punjab. Farmers should follow the recommendations of Punjab Agriculture Department to protect their crops from heat wave.
The spokesman said that farmers should stop wheat harvesting and threshing in case of rain or strong winds. The interval for irrigation of standing crops and vegetables in the field should be reduced. Similarly, the interval for irrigation of mango and citrus orchards should also be shortened.
Farmers should keep the weather forecast in mind while cultivating cotton and pay special attention to the management of early sown cotton crop.
