Pakistani actor Fawad Khan was ready to make his Bollywood comeback with Abir Gulaal. Nine years after his last Hindi film release (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil), his new romantic drama opposite Vaani Kapoor was scheduled for a May 9 release. However, it seems there's uncertainty over its theatrical release after the terrorist attack on civilians in Kashmir.
Approximately 28 innocent lives were lost during the terror attack in Pahlagam. After this incident, theatre owners are reportedly not ready to take the Pakistani actor's film. Abir Gulaal's May 9 release in limbo? According to a Hindustan Times report, Abir Gulaal's release might be delayed as exhibitors are worried about its fate after the Pahalgam terror attack.
For the uninitiated, the attack prompted netizens to oppose Fawad and Vaani's film releasing in India. Sources informed the publication that exhibitors are wary of screening Abir Gulaal and don't wish to take the film, as they fear backlash. "The production house is trying to negotiate with them, but it looks unlikely that Abir Gulaal will release on May 9 for now.
The film's release may be pushed back till things are sorted. But when that will happen is uncertain as theatres do not want to take a film with a Pakistani actor now," a source told the publication.
