LAHORE - The fourth day of the 24th session of the Punjab Assembly saw fiery debates and intense political exchanges, as issues ranging from PTI leaders’ arrests to protests by the healthcare workers dominated the Assembly floor. The session, which began after a delay of one hour and 42 minutes, opened with a discussion on the ongoing protest by the Grand Health Alliance. Government MPA Amjad Ali Javed urged the House to listen to the concerns of the alliance, which has been staging a sit-in outside the Assembly for ten days.
“The concerned minister should have come forward to explain the situation,” Javed said. PPP’s MPA Mumtaz Chang criticized police action against the protesting healthcare workers, particularly the dismantling of protest tents. “If women are sitting for their rights, let them be,” he stated.
In response, Punjab Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman assured the Assembly that the government was actively working on resolving the issue. “Committees at both the health department and provincial government levels are in place to address the Grand Health Alliance’s concerns,” he said.
