Gonzales man arrested for vehicular manslaughter after pedestrian dies

The 51-year-old faces charges of driving under the influence and vehicular homicide after striking a pedestrian on Highway 30, authorities said.

Around midnight, officers with the St. Gabriel Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian on Highway 30 near Louisiana Highway 3115, authorities said.

Officers found a woman with severe injuries who died as first responders arrived. The driver, Sean Obrien Alteri, 51, remained at the scene and showed signs of impairment, prompting officers to contact Louisiana State Police, according to St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau.



After failing field sobriety tests, Alteri was taken to the St. Gabriel Police Department, where a breathalyzer test recorded a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit, Ambeau said in a statement. Alteri was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail.

The name of the victim has not yet been released pending the notification of her family..
