Viewers of Good Morning Britain were treated to Ed Balls's comeback on the ITV show this Monday. Taking a brief hiatus last week, the 58-year-old broadcaster quipped about his sunny getaway, surprising fans with his glowing tan. Jovially prodded by co-host Susanna Reid about his bronzed appearance, she teased: "Somebody got some warm weather over the weekend!" He responded: "They did! It looks like I've been on some exotic beach.
"But actually, to be honest, it was the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Poole. I was on a sailing boat last week, and it was very sunny, it turned out. I think all the rays were reflecting off of the water.
" Susanna highlighted his sunkissed complexion despite having used sunscreen, leaving him glowing upon his return. Ed also shared that a football game over the weekend had left him quite sore. He commented: "I also played football on Saturday and I'm in immense pain, I can hardly move having played this football match.
So, sunkissed but a bit stiff." In another light-hearted segment, Susanna brought up 'Ed Balls Day', a nod to the presenter's infamous social media mishap from April 28, 2011, reports Manchester Evening News. Ed had mistakenly tweeted his own name searching for mentions online, which has since turned into an annually commemorated gaffe.
With good humour, Susanna said: "Before we crack on, let me just say, Happy Ed Balls Day!" To which he retorted: "Oh my gosh, well, and happy GMB day." The presenters announced to the audience that it was Good Morning Britain's 11th anniversary, with Ed pointing out that his namesake day predated the show. On Twitter, festivities were underway as one user joyfully remarked: "Happy Ed Balls day to all those who celebrate! Seems to come round quicker every year!" Another chimed in with: "Happy 15th Ed Balls Day to all who celebrate.
" Meanwhile, another person commented: "Happy Ed Balls Day! Celebrate modestly." Good Morning Britain is available to watch on ITV from 6am..
