The Government is aiming for 10,000 EV charging stations.

The Government will use a new concessionary loan scheme to achieve its goal of increasing the number of EV charging stations in New Zealand to 10,000 by 2030, up from about 1400. Announcing the policy in Lower Hutt on today, Transport Minister Chris Bishop said: “New Zealand needs more EV chargers”. “We have fewer public chargers per EV than many other countries in the OECD, and we know that this is a barrier to Kiwis purchasing EVs.

” Bishop and Climate Change Minister Simon Watts said the Government would use a private-public funding model, with the Crown offering concessionary loans to organisations to build-out the charging network. Bishop admitted that hitting the 10,000 target might be difficult. “It’s an ambitious goal, I’d call it a stretch target,” he said.
