HAJJI ALEJANDRO—The OPM legend has passed away at the age of 70 after battling colon cancer for over a year. On Tuesday (April 22, 2025), GR Rodis, a Facebook user, reposted a post from the Alejandro family announcing the death of the Pinoy singer. He has died from complications related to stage 4 colon cancer, which he had been quietly battling for over a year.
Hajji Alejandro was popularly known as the “Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala,” a nickname he earned during his early solo career when he captivated young audiences across the country. Before going solo, he was a member of the popular Circus Band, where he performed alongside other future music legends. Earlier this year, Hajji’s family revealed that he had been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer.
The illness was discovered after he experienced severe bloating and trouble breathing during a trip. The singer underwent surgery last February 2025, but complications like infections and seizures landed him in the ICU. By March, he had started recovering and was able to return home, showing signs of improvement.
His daughter, singer-actress Rachel Alejandro, shared that her father was slowly regaining his strength and even getting back to singing again. Unfortunately, his condition worsened soon after. Hajji gave life to timeless hits like “Panakip-Butas” and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.
” His performance of the latter won him top honors both in the Philippines and abroad, making it one of the most iconic songs in OPM history. He is survived by his children Rachel, Barni, and Ali, as well as his longtime partner Alynna Velasquez.
