"To be representing England in this competition is a huge honour and we can’t wait to compete with the best of the other European nations. "We have already made history this season by finishing top of the English Premier League, and to win the European tournament would be another great achievement." Hampstead topped the domestic table at the halfway point of the campaign, with nine wins, one draw and just one defeat in 11 matches.

And they know their ranking at home guarantees them a place in the EuroHockey League - the sport's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League - next year. They have beaten Bowden (2-0), with goals from Lauren Hunt and Holly Hunt, and Wimbledon (2-1) thanks to a Tyler Lench brace over the past fortnight to secure their place at the finals weekend. And they will host fellow qualifiers East Grinstead at Paddington Rec on April 26 looking to make a statement before the semi-finals take place.

The club's under-18 boys won the Tier 1 National Cup final against Repton at Nottingham on Sunday. After missing a penalty flick, they converted a second to open the scoring. After some fantastic team play in the second half saw them double their advantage to seal a 2-0 win and the trophy.

A club spokesperson said: "The boys have had an incredible journey, some since U10s with the club, and fully deserve this fantastic accolade. They have also secured a place to compete in Europe as U19s next year. "Well done to all of the players for their hard work and commitment, their parents for amazing support, and the coaches and Team Manager who helped make it all happen.

" The under-14 boys, meanwhile, produced their best performance of the season to win the Tier 2 Plate final as nine different players found the target in an emphatic 15-0 win..
