John Cena and Idris Elba feature as leads in the Amazon Prime Video film, set to release on July 2. The first trailer for the John Cena and Idris Elba-starrer Heads of State has finally been released, giving a first glimpse into the action-packed world. Cena plays US President Will Derringer, while Elba plays UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke.
Sharing a “not-so-friendly" relationship as rivals, the two could be seen trading barbs. However, things take an interesting turn after the leaders become targets of a powerful foreign adversary, who appears to be more than a match for their security forces. What will they do? Well, nothing but willingly joining forces and relying on the only two people they can trust—each other.
Joining them in the journey is none other than Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Noel Bisset, a trained MI6 agent. The trailer opens to show John Cena and Idris Elba confronting each other on diplomatic grounds, only to mock each other in person. However, it is their first joint diplomatic trip that goes all the wrong way when their plane is attacked, forcing them to mend ways until they meet up with Priyanka Chopra’s Noel Bisset and another ally played by Jack Quaid.
“The UK Prime Minister and US President have a public rivalry that risks their countries’ alliance. But when they become targets of a powerful enemy, they’re forced to rely on each other as they go on a wild, multinational run. Allied with Noel, a brilliant MI6 agent, they must find a way to thwart a conspiracy that threatens the free world," the film’s official synopsis reads.
Besides Elba, Cena, and Chopra, the film’s supporting cast features actors like Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle, Clare Foster, Katrina Durden, and Aleksandr Kuznetsov. Directed by Ilya Naishuller, the film also marks John Cena and Idris Elba’s first film collaboration after 2021’s The Suicide Squad. They also serve as producers of Heads of State.
The film will be released on Amazon Prime Video on July 2..
