Being swept in the NBA Playoffs is one thing, but ending up on the wrong side of the association's history due to not putting up much of a fight is another. The Miami Heat's suffering finally ended after a 138-83 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, that's not where the story for the Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo-led squad ends.
The Heat lost this NBA Playoffs series to the Cavaliers with a total of 122 points. This is the most lopsided series loss in league history, per ESPN. The New Orleans Hornets used to be the record-holders for this after they got swept by the Denver Nuggets in 2009.
Coach Erik Spoelstra and Co. beat them out by just one more point.Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra© Sam Navarro-Imagn Images This was also the fourth-largest deficit in NBA Playoffs history.
The Minneapolis Lakers' triumph over the St. Louis Hawks and that very same Nuggets win over the Hornets both saw the losing teams sink with an agonizing 58-point demolition job. The only other time a team got close to the record was the Los Angeles Lakers when they manhandled the Golden State Warriors for 56 points in 1973.
The 55-point loss to the Cavaliers in the 2024-25 NBA Playoffs was also only the third time that the Heat got swept. It was the Milwaukee Bucks that dismantled them in 2021, and the Chicago Bulls that did the same back in 2007.It was clear that they were outgunned and might have even been fatigued en route to this NBA Playoffs series.
Hopefully, Coach Spoelstra, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro recalibrate so that they can become postseason risers once again.Related: Heat Fans Go Scorched On Earth Amid Tyler Herro's Game 4 vs. Cavaliers.
