STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- This cozy Bed and Breakfast overlooking New York Harbor is located next to the Alice Austin House Museum and just a few miles from the Staten Island Ferry.
Originally built as a residence in 1920, it was transformed into a B&B around 1992. The Harbor House B&B hosts guests with individually decorated rooms, some of which have shared bathrooms, are equipped with TVs and free WiFi. Accommodations vary from snug rooms with bunk beds to spacious suites with separate sitting areas.
One suite even includes a kitchenette, according to the website. One of the photos shows the road that runs along the waterfront from 1888. Only the Alice Austin House sits at the end.
Here is the view looking south on Bay Street (now Edgewater Street) on October 25, 1888, toward Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. The wooden entrance gate to Clear Comfort is in the middle distance, at the foot of Pennsylvania Avenue (now Hylan Boulevard). New York Harbor is at left, with ships and boats visible.
